Cayce
(Q) If a soul fails to improve itself, what becomes of it?
(A) That's why the reincarnation, why it reincarnates; that it may have the opportunity. Can the will of man continue to defy its Maker? Cayce (826-8)

"The purposes, the import of the earthly sojourn... is to meet self, to overcome those weaknesses in self, and become more and more adaptable to the spiritual truths that are a part of each and every entity." Cayce (1362-1)

"Each entrance of an entity into a material experience is that it may better fit itself, through the application of an ideal in its experience, for a sojourn with that which is Creative - that influence or force in which all move and have their consciousness, their being." Cayce (1759-1)

"Perfection is not possible in a material body until you have at least entered some thirty times . . ." Cayce (2982-2)

(Q) Have I known any of the people in a former life with whom I have come in contact?
(A) Most we meet. We meet few people by chance, but all are opportunities in one experience or another." [Cayce (3246-1)]

"In the first cause, or principle, all is perfect. In the creation of soul, we find the portion may become a living soul and equal with the Creator. To reach that position, when separated, must pass through all stages of development, that it may be one with the Creator." Cayce (900-10)

"For Life and its expressions are one. Each soul or entity will and does return, or cycle, as does nature in its manifestations about man; thus leaving, making or presenting - as it were - those infallible, indelible truths that it - Life - is continuous. And though there may be a few short years in this or that experience, they are one; the soul, the inner self being purified, being lifted up, that it may be one with that first cause, that first purpose for its coming into existence." Cayce (938-1)

"But know each soul must find its way back to its God. Be as the leader gave of old, "Others may do as they may, but as for me - I will serve the living God." Not the God of any people, of any individual, but the living God - that is personal to those that seek to know Him as a personal God . . . So may the entity, with the spirit of God through the power of the Christ Consciousness, come to know - in every thing, in every act - that love that may pass all understandings. For, to others it may be as a myth, as a dream, as a thing to be hoped for, but to this body, to this entity, to this soul, who has tasted of the joys of the personal contact with those influences within the soul, it may come to be His power working within." Cayce (255-12)

Walter Russell
"I have communed with Leonardo da Vinci hundreds of times to have his inspiration for my guidance and have always received that help. I consider him as an individual entity whose thinking still exists — and will forever exist. He may have reincarnated a dozen times since then.

"That is of no consequence. The Leonardo da Vinci we all know is a part of everyone whose thinking has interchanged with his.

"The great deterrent to an understanding of reincarnation is the common belief that our individuality and personality are separate and apart from all others instead of each one being a part of all others.

"All men, and all civilization are the sum total of every man's thinking since the beginning of man.

"The great architect of today is so because some early cave man put a lintel over his doorway or slanted a roof over his cave to keep out the rain. That cave man is a part of today's architect." [Russell, The Message of the Divine Iliad Vol II]

"The life-death journey from body sensing to Mind knowing is a long journey of countless mllions of seeming repetitions. He who has begun to know that these seeming life-death sequences are not repetitions or reincarnations, but one eternally long and continuous unfolding of one eternal idea from one point in the eternal Light of Mind, has gone far toward his Cosmic Conscious goal.

He who can withdraw from the extensions of his sensing into the fulcrum of his knowing from which those extensions spring and extend and retract them under full control of his will becomes co-Creator with The Universal One. He is the transcendent being who has become the fulcrum of his own power.

When you fully understand that what we call matter and motion are but electric thought recordings of ALL Mind-thinking, your thinking as well as God's thinking, your power to control matter and motion as its creator instead of as its slave will multiply in the measure of your comprehension of the electric wave which records all thinking." [Walter and Lao Russell]

"In the Cosmic sense reincarnation and repetition mean the same thing, for Nature is eternal, it is endless and beginningless. The idea of death - or of identity - or of being killed - is a conclusion of the senses of bodies. Such a thought is impossible for the knowing Mind of the Cosmic mystic." [Atomic Suicide, page 246]

"The cube projector never appears with the seed until it "germinates," which means that the conditions for its rebirth are normal for that rebirth. If it never again germinates on this earth it still is and maintains its one plane existence eternally. It cannot be destroyed for it is Mind-Idea of Mind-thinking, and that is what constitutes all Nature." [Atomic Suicide, page 256]

"Exemplifying the perpetual interrelationship of matter and antimatter as shown in Fig. 65, which gives and regives to each other for perpetual sequences of rebirths into each other. The outstanding characteristic feature of Nature is repetition. Life and death are other names for it. Reincarnation is still another name for it." [Atomic Suicide, page 258]

Christ Returns - Speaks His Truth
"You must also realise that everyone is born with differing human capacities to make use of the additives pumped into them at birth. The human capacities to be utilised by each ((soul depend on the spiritual progress it made in previous lives." [Christ Returns - Speaks His Truth, Letter 4, page 6]

"Those who deny this Truth will be denied access to the Celestial Kingdoms until they have increased their spiritual perception, and prayerfully changed their attitudes. Only when their vision is lifted above the earthly human perception of 'male and female' - and beyond their earthly desires and ego drive - to the Reality out of which they have drawn their 'being', will they escape the wheel of re-incarnation and find entrance to the ultimate Joy and Glory." [Christ Returns - Speaks His Truth, Letter 4, page 17]

Annie Besant "Death consists, indeed, in a repeated process of unrobing, or unsheathing. The immortal part of man shakes off from itself, one after the other, its outer casings, and - as the snake from its skin, the butterfly from its chrysalis - emerges from one after another, passing into a higher state of consciousness." [Annie Besant]

81. REINCARNATION

Question. - What is the truth of the question of reincarnation, which is believed by some people?

Answer. - The object of what we are about to say is to explain the reality - not to deride the beliefs of other people; it is only to explain the facts; that is all. We do not oppose anyone's ideas, nor do we approve of criticism.

Know, then, that those who believe in reincarnation are of two classes: one class does not believe in the spiritual punishments and rewards of the other world, and they suppose that man by reincarnation and return to this world gains rewards and recompenses; they consider heaven and hell to be restricted to this world and do not speak of the existence of the other world. Among these there are two further divisions. One division thinks that man sometimes returns to this world in the form of an animal in order to undergo severe punishment and that, after enduring this painful torment, he will be released from the animal world and will come again into the human world; this is called transmigration. The other division thinks that from the human world one again returns to the human world, and that by this return rewards and punishments for a former life are obtained; this is called reincarnation. Neither of these classes speak of any other world besides this one.

The second sort of believers in reincarnation affirm the existence of the other world, and they consider reincarnation the means of becoming perfect - that is, they think that man, by going from and coming again to this world, will gradually acquire perfections, until he reaches the inmost perfection. In other words, that men are composed of matter and force: matter in the beginning - that is to say, in the first cycle - is imperfect, but on coming repeatedly to this world it progresses and acquires refinement and delicacy, until it becomes like a polished mirror; and force, which is no other than spirit, is realized in it with all the perfections.

This is the presentation of the subject by those who believe in reincarnation and transmigration. We have condensed it; if we entered into the details, it would take much time. This summary is sufficient. No logical arguments and proofs of this question are brought forward; they are only suppositions and inferences from conjectures, and not conclusive arguments. Proofs must be asked for from the believers in reincarnation, and not conjectures, suppositions and imaginations.

But you have asked for arguments of the impossibility of reincarnation. This is what we must now explain. The first argument for its impossibility is that the outward is the expression of the inward; the earth is the mirror of the Kingdom; the material world corresponds to the spiritual world. Now observe that in the sensible world appearances are not repeated, for no being in any respect is identical with, nor the same as, another being. The sign of singleness is visible and apparent in all things. If all the granaries of the world were full of grain, you would not find two grains absolutely alike, the same and identical without any distinction. It is certain that there will be differences and distinctions between them. As the proof of uniqueness exists in all things, and the Oneness and Unity of God is apparent in the reality of all things, the repetition of the same appearance is absolutely impossible. Therefore, reincarnation, which is the repeated appearance of the same spirit with its former essence and condition in this same world of appearance, is impossible and unrealizable. As the repetition of the same appearance is impossible and interdicted for each of the material beings, so for spiritual beings also, a return to the same condition, whether in the arc of descent or in the arc of ascent, is interdicted and impossible, for the material corresponds to the spiritual.

Nevertheless, the return of material beings with regard to species is evident; so the trees which during former years brought forth leaves, blossoms and fruits in the coming years will bring forth exactly the same leaves, blossoms and fruits. This is called the repetition of species. If anyone makes an objection saying that the leaf, the blossom and the fruit have been decomposed, and have descended from the vegetable world to the mineral world, and again have come back from the mineral world to the vegetable world, and, therefore, there has been a repetition - the answer is that the blossom, the leaf and the fruit of last year were decomposed, and these combined elements were disintegrated and were dispersed in space, and that the particles of the leaf and fruit of last year, after decomposition, have not again become combined, and have not returned. On the contrary, by the composition of new elements, the species has returned. It is the same with the human body, which after decomposition becomes disintegrated, and the elements which composed it are dispersed. If, in like manner, this body should again return from the mineral or vegetable world, it would not have exactly the same composition of elements as the former man. Those elements have been decomposed and dispersed; they are dissipated in this vast space. Afterward, other particles of elements have been combined, and a second body has been formed; it may be that one of the particles of the former individual has entered into the composition of the succeeding individual, but these particles have not been conserved and kept, exactly and completely, without addition or diminution, so that they may be combined again, and from that composition and mingling another individual may come into existence. So it cannot be proved that this body with all its particles has returned; that the former man has become the latter; and that, consequently, there has been repetition; that the spirit also, like the body, has returned; and that after death its essence has come back to this world.

If we say that this reincarnation is for acquiring perfections so that matter may become refined and delicate, and that the light of the spirit may be manifest in it with the greatest perfection, this also is mere imagination. For, even supposing we believe in this argument, still change of nature is impossible through renewal and return. The essence of imperfection, by returning, does not become the reality of perfection; complete darkness, by returning, does not become the source of light; the essence of weakness is not transformed into power and might by returning, and an earthly nature does not become a heavenly reality. The tree of Zaqqum, (The infernal tree mentioned in the Qur'án.) no matter how frequently it may come back, will not bring forth sweet fruit, and the good tree, no matter how often it may return, will not bear a bitter fruit. Therefore, it is evident that returning and coming back to the material world does not become the cause of perfection. This theory has no proofs nor evidences; it is simply an idea. No, in reality the cause of acquiring perfections is the bounty of God.

The Theosophists believe that man on the arc of ascent (i.e., of the Circle of Existence.) will return many times until he reaches the Supreme Center; in that condition matter becomes a clear mirror, the light of the spirit will shine upon it with its full power, and essential perfection will be acquired. Now, this is an established and deep theological proposition, that the material worlds are terminated at the end of the arc of descent, and that the condition of man is at the end of the arc of descent, and at the beginning of the arc of ascent, which is opposite to the Supreme Center. Also, from the beginning to the end of the arc of ascent, there are numerous spiritual degrees. The arc of descent is called beginning, (Lit., bringing forth.) and that of ascent is called progress. (Lit., producing something new.) The arc of descent ends in materialities, and the arc of ascent ends in spiritualities. The point of the compass in describing a circle makes no retrograde motion, for this would be contrary to the natural movement and the divine order; otherwise, the symmetry of the circle would be spoiled.

Moreover, this material world has not such value or such excellence that man, after having escaped from this cage, will desire a second time to fall into this snare. No, through the Eternal Bounty the worth and true ability of man becomes apparent and visible by traversing the degrees of existence, and not by returning. When the shell is once opened, it will be apparent and evident whether it contains a pearl or worthless matter. When once the plant has grown it will bring forth either thorns or flowers; there is no need for it to grow up again. Besides, advancing and moving in the worlds in a direct order according to the natural law is the cause of existence, and a movement contrary to the system and law of nature is the cause of nonexistence. The return of the soul after death is contrary to the natural movement, and opposed to the divine system.

Therefore, by returning, it is absolutely impossible to obtain existence; it is as if man, after being freed from the womb, should return to it a second time. Consider what a puerile imagination this is which is implied by the belief in reincarnation and transmigration. Believers in it consider the body as a vessel in which the spirit is contained, as water is contained in a cup; this water has been taken from one cup and poured into another. This is child's play. They do not realize that the spirit is an incorporeal being, and does not enter and come forth, but is only connected with the body as the sun is with the mirror. If it were thus, and the spirit by returning to this material world could pass through the degrees and attain to essential perfection, it would be better if God prolonged the life of the spirit in the material world until it had acquired perfections and graces; it then would not be necessary for it to taste of the cup of death, or to acquire a second life.

The idea that existence is restricted to this perishable world, and the denial of the existence of divine worlds, originally proceeded from the imaginations of certain believers in reincarnation; but the divine worlds are infinite. If the divine worlds culminated in this material world, creation would be futile: nay, existence would be pure child's play. The result of these endless beings, which is the noble existence of man, would come and go for a few days in this perishable dwelling, and after receiving punishments and rewards, at last all would become perfect. The divine creation and the infinite existing beings would be perfected and completed, and then the Divinity of the Lord, and the names and qualities of God, on behalf of these spiritual beings, would, as regards their effect, result in laziness and inaction! "Glory to thy Lord, the Lord Who is sanctified from all their descriptions." (Cf. Qur'án 37:180.)

Such were the limited minds of the former philosophers, like Ptolemy and the others who believed and imagined that the world, life and existence were restricted to this terrestrial globe, and that this boundless space was confined within the nine spheres of heaven, and that all were empty and void. Consider how greatly their thoughts were limited and how weak their minds. Those who believe in reincarnation think that the spiritual worlds are restricted to the worlds of human imagination. Moreover, some of them, like the Druzes and the Nusayris, think that existence is restricted to this physical world. What an ignorant supposition! For in this universe of God, which appears in the most complete perfection, beauty and grandeur, the luminous stars of the material universe are innumerable! Then we must reflect how limitless and infinite are the spiritual worlds, which are the essential foundation. "Take heed ye who are endued with discernment." (Qur'án 59:2.)

But let us return to our subject. In the Divine Scriptures and Holy Books "return" is spoken of, but the ignorant have not understood the meaning, and those who believed in reincarnation have made conjectures on the subject. For what the divine Prophets meant by "return" is not the return of the essence, but that of the qualities; it is not the return of the Manifestation, but that of the perfections. In the Gospel it says that John, the son of Zacharias, is Elias. These words do not mean the return of the rational soul and personality of Elias in the body of John, but rather that the perfections and qualities of Elias were manifested and appeared in John.

A lamp shone in this room last night, and when tonight another lamp shines, we say the light of last night is again shining. Water flows from a fountain; then it ceases; and when it begins to flow a second time, we say this water is the same water flowing again; or we say this light is identical with the former light. It is the same with the spring of last year, when blossoms, flowers and sweet-scented herbs bloomed, and delicious fruits were brought forth; next year we say that those delicious fruits have come back, and those blossoms, flowers and blooms have returned and come again. This does not mean that exactly the same particles composing the flowers of last year have, after decomposition, been again combined and have then come back and returned. On the contrary, the meaning is that the delicacy, freshness, delicious perfume and wonderful color of the flowers of last year are visible and apparent in exactly the same manner in the flowers of this year. Briefly, this expression refers only to the resemblance and likeness which exist between the former and latter flowers. The "return" which is mentioned in the Divine Scriptures is this: it is fully explained by the Supreme Pen (Bahá'u'lláh.) in the Kitáb-i-Ãqán. Refer to it, so that you may be informed of the truth of the divine mysteries.

Upon you be greetings and praise.

READING (826-8)
M 35 (Lawyer, Protestant)

This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of August, 1936, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. (826), Active Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Present: Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. L. B. and Hugh Lynn Cayce.

Time and Place: 2:50 to 3:15 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. Washington, D.C.

(Entity. You will consider this entity's mental and spiritual developments and their expression in the present life. You will answer the questions which he has presented regarding his activities.)

TEXT EC: Yes, we have had the entity and those relations with the universe and universal forces, that are manifested and latent in the personalities of the present entity.

Ready for questions.

(Q) what was the exact hour and minute of my SOUL birth on a farm near Pattonsburg, Mo., on March 2, 1901?

(A) Eleven p.m. Central Time as would be termed, on March 2, 1901; for this experience was two hours, lacking a few minutes, after the physical birth.

(Q) What was the exact hour and minute of my physical birth?

(A) Nine-twelve when the entity began its intake of elemental forces in breath.

(Q) Should I change from my present position in the Bureau of Formal Cases of the Interstate Commerce Commission to the Bureau of Motor Carriers, and if so, should I transfer to the finance section, the rate section, or the field section of the Bureau of Motor Carriers?

(A) When all of that which has been given is considered, and as we find the tend or trend of the entity in the present, if the choice is made by self for the transfer, the field division.

In the individual cases in the Interstate Commerce Commission in the present, this change that is coming with the change of the activities through Administrations, we would find that these then would offer - while many changes will come about - an opportunity for expression. The choice should be made in self. But we would never work this out by those conditions in the experience as in the present, for we would find them adverse!

(Q) Should I plan on getting outside of the Commission soon, and if so, what section of the United States would be best for me?

(A) The middle or central section would be the best.

(Q) Should an astrological horoscope be based on the time of physical birth or the time of soul birth?

(A) On time of physical birth; for these are merely INCLINATIONS, and because of inclinations are not the influence of will. WILL is that factor of the spiritual forces or the gift, as it were, TO man, hu-man, as he came into material form, with which choice is made, see? Hence if astrological aspects are to be assumed, then physical. But these make for oft confusing experiences to those casting such charts and reading from that which has been the version of same.

For as we have indicated, there are two, yea three phases or schools through which such information, such charts, such characters have been carried - the Egyptian, the Persian, the Indian.

The Persian is a combination and the OLDER of all of these, and these are as logos (?), or as charts that have been set. That they have become as experiences in the activities of individuals, to be sure, is not disputed; but the world does not govern MAN, MAN governs the world! And the inclinations astrologically show whether man has or has not applied will!

Then the inclinations are good, but they may be stumbling-stones if one submerges will to listen at inclinations!

(Q) Where can the two books, "The Developing Mind," by DeWitt, and "Training of Children," by McDowell, be secured? (As in 5747-1 , Par. 8-A.)

(A) These should come through publishers, or copies of same may be attained through the information as attained - one of Longmans, Green, and Co. - through the library.

(Q) Must each soul continue to be reincarnated in the earth until it reaches perfection, or are some souls lost?

(A) Can God lose itself, if God be God - or is it submerged, or is it as has been given, carried into the universal soul or consciousness? The SOUL is not lost; the INDIVIDUALITY of the soul that separates itself is lost. The reincarnation or the opportunities are continuous until the soul has of itself become an ENTITY in its whole or has submerged itself.

(Q) If a soul fails to improve itself, what becomes of it?

(A) That's why the reincarnation, why it reincarnates; that it MAY have the opportunity. Can the will of man continue to defy its Maker?

(Q) What great change or the beginning of what change, if any, is to take place in the earth in the year 2,000 to 2,001 A.D.?

(A) When there is a shifting of the poles. (See Ledger Dispatch & Star, 7/20/59, Cambridge, Mass. (Science Service) MAGNETIC DIP POLE DRIFTING. Also see A.R.E. EARTH CHANGES booklet, 4/61.) Or a new cycle begins.

(Q) Was my sojourn under the name of Ernest Austen my last incarnation in the earth?

(A) Last incarnation that deals with the urges within the entity in the present.

(Q) If not, when was the most recent sojourn?

(A) This applies in self as has been indicated.

(Q) When was my last sojourn on another planet than the earth, and on what planet did it occur?

(A) Read the information which has been given to thee through this channel. As given, these are a reverse of those as they are mentioned. It is not that a soul AS a body is in an environment that it lives upon a planet as one does in the earth, but that the consciousness which is befitting to the environ of the planet is in that environ, see?

The occupation, as may be said, upon the Jupiterian plane could not of its nature be the same as that upon Venus, Mars, Neptune, Uranus, Earth, Mercury, Moon, Sun, or any of those. But each has its relative relationship to consciousness in its activity. Hence the sages of old, in the Persian, the Egyptian, the Indian, GAVE names then to the planetary influences according to that which to them appeared AS environmental! It would be much as saying how it was that the animal kingdom in its various divisions received names in the earth. How? These do not mean the same in the varied spheres, but their activity is such that names - as has been given - so confine that they make confusion; for names are setting metes and bounds - and to this edge and to that edge, which DOES NOT exist! any more than time, space or all - WHEN you consider that the SOUL is OF and THROUGH and part and portion of the all, see?

Hence in its environ, in its activity, and from a little period in the earth, in man's seeking he finds an awareness in materiality, with all of those names or influences that have been named - each expressing an influence or an attitude or an environ or a sphere of consciousness. These are merely names, but they are ONE, see?

Then these activities in various spheres are meeting, as in self, the needs for its SOUL-SAVING. For remember, these should not be forgotten, and that they should be compatible; for these are IMMUTABLE. "Like begets like." That sown in spirit, in mind, in materiality, must be reaped BY that soul in whatever sphere it is sown. The preparation of same in the mental, as the builder, makes for the various influences and forces.

God IS, Spirit IS; the Soul IS an individualized portion that may materialize, that may become conscious as a companion for that which is, that I AM THAT I AM in ALL its spheres! And all spheres of activity in the earth, in the realms of WHATEVER environ, are for that preparation. That man may control in the earth a few of its influences is so infinitesimal to what eternity is, or to what space or time or any of the universal forces are, that the finite mind does not conceive.

(Q) What sign of the zodiac was ascending at birth on my last sojourn in the earth previous to this sojourn?

(A) Uranus.

(Q) Have I had an incarnation on the planet Jupiter?

(A) In that environ, yes.

(Q) Is it possible to secure a reading regarding conditions and my sojourn, if any, on that planet?

(A) If you can understand Jupiterian environs and languages, yes.

(Q) Upon what planets other than the earth does human life exist?

(A) None as human life in the earth. This has just been given.

(Q) Is there a planet anciently known as Lilith or Vulcan?

(A) Pluto and Vulcan are one and the same. No Lilith. Lilith is a personality.

(Q) Do you have an further suggestions?

(A) Look within self rather than without. For what has been the command to those that came into the earth? "Be fruitful, multiply, SUBDUE the earth." For these have been given thee as signs, as seasons, as those that make known into the heart of man, in the study of these, the GLORY that the Father hath prepared for man. To imply that they rule the earth is to imply, (or its teachers of same, is to imply) that they were set in motion and then have been forgotten! Is that thy experience? Then you are in a bad shape!

We are through.

REPORTS 8/12/36 EC's letter: "Understand you are making a special study of Astrology these days, have had some very - well not odd - but unusual - and that would not be the exact word - well some experiences with - well known or exceptional Astrologist, would like very much to talk with you on the subject, and tell you of some of them at least, they might be of interest to you as you are making a study of the subject. My birthdate is Mar. 18th, 1877 - my mother and Father say it was about 3 P.M. place is western Ky., Christian Co. Tho of the 37 astrological readings have had 19 say I could not possibly have been born at that time. All are different except on one thing. Wonder if your chart will show that. Will appreciate your working it out and will be glad to contribute to any expense you may incur. "But would like very much to have the opportunity to talk with you on the subject. Tho I have never read a book, on the subject, and the readings is the only source of information I have.

"Let us hear often, and why can't you make it over a weekend..."

2/09/37 Miss (1336) obtained a Life Rdg. via his recommendation.

7/24/37 Letter to GD: "I had planned to come to the Congress for quite some time; but it happens that as an avocation, side line, or call it what you may, I deal in the stock market. During the week of the Congress, the market was at a crucial point, near a turning point, and it, I thought, would have been too much of a risk to get too far from Washington. As it turned out, I was right, and it would have been quite an expensive trip for me, had I gone. "Incidentally, my source of income will eventually, I believe, be principally the market. In fact, I have been studying it quite intensively for about eight years, and during this time I have read about 1,000 books on the subject, about all there are in the country on the subject. As I recall, you folks gave quite a series of readings relating to the market some years ago for some man in New York. I wonder if these readings would be available for me to see should I come to Virginia Beach. You understand that I do not care anything about any readings as to what the market may do in the future. I know that pretty well already. What I am interested in is going over the readings which have been given on this subject, with the possibility that some basis or plan of forecasting the market may have been set forth. Do you know whether such a plan or system may have been outlined in any reading or not?"

7/30/37 GD's letter: "Thanks for your explanatory letter of the 24th - you made it quite clear why you did not come to the Congress. I would call it real work, dealing in the stock market - and I cannot imagine anyone choosing that as an avocation. However, I suppose it is one of those many things that are absolutely necessary whether we like it or not.

"Yes, since you have exhausted about every other source, I should think it would be wise for you to study what the Readings have said about such. We have about five hundred Readings dealing directly with the stock market, but they were given for an individual (900) from day to day on his psychic development which seemed to run in that line - through dreams, hunches, etc. But also it has been given through the Readings that to fully understand the stock market one must comprehend Numerology - from the spiritual angle. So that's a whole new field for you. We had a very lovely lady numerologist (Florence Evylinn Campbell) down from New York a short time ago; considered the best there is. The Readings have given also quite a bit on Numerology; outlining how to study it. So, I think you could profit considerably from going through these records we have. When you come we can put a card table in the room adjoining the office, and you can dig away to your heart's content - or perhaps it will be discontent by the time you have finished. Anyway, you can take a chance - to learn what is meant by what we call Chance."

12/29/37 (826)'s letter to HLC:

Washington, D.C., ... St., N.W.

Dear Hugh Lynn:

With regard to our telephone conversation of yesterday, I decided I had better write to you in order to make perfectly clear what I want in the readings.

In 1921, there was in existence in New York city, an organization known, I think, as the Bureau of Economic Research. The organization, or the man who was the organization, had a letter service through which to subscribers he advised them what the stock market was likely to do. He said that the methods he used were based on a pure mathematical formula. And he was very good, being able, in general, to say when supply in stocks were beginning to overcome demand, and vice versa. However, after a few months, he discontinued the service and presumably went out of business. It was my desire to see in a reading if we couldn't find out what the mathematical formula was which he used. At present, there is a man in New York City, who has a similar service, now in existence, and makes forecasts based on somewhat the same principles. He has written a book telling to some extent how he does it, but he has withheld the methods he uses to determine the supply and demand areas. If possible I would like to get a reading explaining the formula which he uses.

Then there is another man in New York City who is a very successful speculator, not only in stocks but also in commodities. I would like to get a reading on the methods which he uses.

I am not sure whether you folks would want to give a research reading of this kind or not. If it is done, it should be kept strictly secret that such a kind of reading was given. I would think. It may be that the reading on the operator in 1921 would be more desirable because of being a past event which is finished. As to that, I do not know. Well, you folks know what you think desirable to do. I have already learned how to forecast the long trend of the market, that is, a movement extending more than three months. The information which I seek would help me to get nearer the exact highs and lows of long moves, but particularly it would help in short swings in the market like those since October 19, 1937, and many which occur throughout the year. It is my opinion that in the work which I want to do, as well as that which you folks are striving for, it will be necessary for us to acquire money. It seems that if a man controls enough money, the whole world will listen to him, and the newspapers write what he says in large headlines. But if he merely has knowledge, nobody hears or listens to him. I have already learned enough about the long trend of the market, the movements over three months, that I believe without question in a few years, five or ten, I will acquire considerable fortune. But if in addition to this knowledge, I could secure the knowledge enabling me to forecast the short movements of a week to three months, this would probably double or more my power to acquire money. If we can get sufficient money, we won't have to depend upon men and organizations in high position to carry out our aims. That method, I am afraid, while probably effective over a long period of time, may be rather slow and uncertain. I hope all of you had a delightful Christmas, and will have a good New Year. If you decide to give the readings, I would like to get three together if I could and if the reading will give us any information. It is my intention to drive down there so that I can be there and ask questions.

(826) 1/04/38 HLC's letter to (826):

Upon my return to the Beach after a few days absence I learned that you had talked with Miss Davis about your readings and definite plans made to try them.

This is to confirm the dates for these readings. We are holding Monday morning and afternoon and Tuesday morning. The use of the two latter periods will depend upon the success and trend of the first reading.

My father does not feel that you will be able to secure anything on the systems used by others but thinks you may be assisted to develop a system of your own. In any case he is willing to try the reading for you and I will be glad to work over the suggestions and questions with you.

The question of the value and use of such information has arisen before with members of our old association. It is going to be necessary to take some stand on policy and I am glad that we may begin with you.

Sincerely, Hugh Lynn Cayce

Rudolf Steiner
"One can be impulsive because one eats or drinks too much. This is the lowest kind of impulsiveness. There the astral completely sinks into the bodily desire, and we completely enjoy life in our body. If, however, we control our desire, if we almost order the body what he has to do or not, then we are temperate, one can also say moderate. Then we keep by such moderation those forces in the correct order which should help that we do not deliver the concerning organs to Lucifer in the next incarnation. Since we deliver the forces to Lucifer, which we spend to a passionate life. Most badly when the passions transport us into a state of drunkenness, when we feel well with dozing.
Where we lose our temperance, we always deliver forces to Lucifer. He takes these forces, but with them, he also takes the forces from us we need for the respiratory and the digestive organs. We return then with bad respiratory and digestive organs if we do not practice the virtue of moderation. Those who like to be captivated by their life of passions, who dedicate themselves to their passionate life, are the candidates for the decadent people of the future, for those people of the future who will suffer from all possible shortcomings of their physical bodies." Source: Rudolf Steiner – GA 159 – The Mystery of Death – Zurich, 31st January 1915]

We know that the human being enters the world from two directions. His physical body is inherited from his ancestors, from his father and mother and their ancestors. Good and bad characteristics come down to him from his ancestors, being transmitted in the blood from one generation to the other.

But whenever any particular qualities are inherited by a child, the forces which the latter brings from its foregoing incarnations unite with these qualities. And that is the positive inherited energies, stored in the soul's permanent atoms.

But because people know nothing of spiritual forces coming from a former incarnation, they believe that these inherited qualities are overpoweringly strong.

Were people aware that there is a spiritual force coming from the foregoing incarnation, they would say: Very good, we quite believe in the inherited tendencies; but we also know of the inner, central forces in the soul, which issue from a former life; if these be strengthened and fortified, they will gain the ascendancy over the material factor, that is, over the inherited tendencies.

Men will stagnate in their inherited tendencies unless they fortify the spirit in themselves, and continually overcome whatever is inherited, by their own strength of spirit.

Needless to say, in a time like our own and with the great achievements of natural science before us - the spiritual must also increase in strength, because it has the power of transformation, of the taking over by Holy spirit of our whole existence and usher us into the kingdom of God.

Just as with the giving to the Mary - the power to conceive, the Spirit poured forth as the Christ-impulse, gives to the body something, which otherwise can result only from physical and physiological evolution fire, an inner fire which expresses itself in the circulation of the blood as new states of being and perception.

We do not know, what is within our souls, but Jesus knows what is in every heart, in every being and needed no one to bear witness about them, for himself knew what was in man.

When Jesus saw Lazarus, he loved him.

The Lord loved him because he had already recognized him as his disciple, who should be raised from the dead and carry the message of Christ into the world.

It is for this reason that the disciple, the Apostle whom the Lord loved, is mentioned only from the story of Lazarus onwards.

"For now we see as through a glass, dimly, but then, face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know, even as I also am known." 1 Corinthians 13:12

The individuality of Lazarus had been transformed into the John-individuality by baptism in the highest sense fulfilled upon Lazarus by the Christ-impulse.

Lazarus became an initiate in the new sense of the word, though the old forms, including the lethargy, were retained in a measure, but his perception and the power had changed, his spiritual state increased by the presence of Holy spirit as the discovery of God present in the soul. Once the soul has grasped the significance of this doctrine, the whole horizon changes; the implications - are living in Christ, with Christ, through Christ. [Rudolf Steiner]

Paramahansa Yogananda
"Don't depend on death to liberate you from your imperfections. You are exactly the same after death as you were before. Nothing changes, you only give up the body. If you are a thief or a liar or a cheater before death, you don't become an angel merely by dying. If such were possible, then let us all go and jump in the ocean now and become angels at once! Whatever you have made of yourself thus far, so will you be hereafter. And when you reincarnate, you will bring that same nature with you. To change, you have to make the effort. This world is the place to do it." [Paramahansa Yogananda]
