Spiral Swimmer

Here are photos of making the Spiral Swimmer beginning with a 1.5" x 1.5" piece of wood. The piece is first turned on the lathe. The piece must be bored all the way through its center to accommodate a centering support dowel (5/8").

Spiral Swimmer

The spiral pattern was drawn on the uncut wood blank. A bandsaw was used to kerf the material to be removed. Beginning to remove the unwanted material. Notice the dowel inserted through the center to stabilize and strengthen the piece while working on it.
