cardinal number

In arithmetic and mathematics, cardinal numbers, or cardinals for short, are a generalization of the natural numbers used to measure the cardinality or size of sets. The cardinality of a finite set is a natural number - the number of elements in the set.

In linguistics, cardinal numbers are number words representing a quantity (such as one, two, three, etc. in English). They are related to ordinal numbers (such as first, second, third, etc.)
