Uric Acid is produced in the body by too much artificially produced and refined fructose corn syrup. High levels of Glucose in the brain becomes sorbitol then into fructose which then produces uric acid in the brain with consequences of inflammation and oxidation stress which can then create Alzheimer's (the brain on fire), compromised and damaged enzymatic pathways and dysfunctional mitochondria that cannot produce energy the brain cells need. Apoptosis - the suicide pathway of brain cells and their loss. Uric acid leads directly to inflammation, insulin resistance and array and functionality of gut bacteria.
Uric Acid inhibits nitric oxide needed to relax blood vessels and increase blood supply.
Dehydration initiates production of high sodium which creates fructose in the body.
Uric Acid stimulates fructokinase.

When I was at medical school the subject of Uric acid levels was typically paired with gout, high purine levels in the diet and one of the most ubiquitous and successful drugs allopurinol which is used to reduce uric acid levels by inhibiting xanthine oxidase, preventing crystals that can lodge in our joints causing pain.

But there is a lot more to do with uric acid than Uricemia

Dr. Perlmutter is a Board-Certified Neurologist and six-time New York Times bestselling author. He serves on the Board of Directors and is a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition.
Dr. Perlmutter received his M.D. degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine where he was awarded the Leonard G. Rowntree Research Award. He serves as a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease and has published extensively in peer-reviewed scientific journals including Archives of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and The Journal of Applied Nutrition.

In addition, he is a frequent lecturer at symposia sponsored by institutions such as the World Bank and IMF, Columbia University, Scripps Institute, New York University, and Harvard University, and serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

He is the editor of The Microbiome and the Brain authored by top experts in the field and published in December 2019 by CRC Press. His latest book, Drop Acid, focuses on the pivotal role of uric acid in metabolic diseases, and was published in February 2022.
