GEORGE WASHINGTON did not look the way he has been depicted! The famous Stuart portrait copied of him was not done from life. Only one life mask was ever taken and which has been reconstructed here.
He was exceptionally tall for those days with steely blue eyes, a florid cheek ,and auburn hair. His dignity was steady, yet his smile irresistible.
Washington was an intensely prayerful and devoted man. He possessed a type of spiritual protection. Again and again the Divine intervened to keep him from getting shot or his troops from being utterly destroyed.
He made it his life's work to cultivate and write about good manners and conduct. The only flaw he has ever said to have had was a fiery and passionate temper. He kept that under control in public.
Although not mentioned here, he did not wish anyone to touch him without his permission. There were many reasons for this. The primary one being he was a military man who had been under attack all his life. But there were other types of dangers in those days... especially contagion ...both physical and spiritual.
His loyalty, fidelity, strength of character, and virtue... surpassed all other of the founding fathers... to such an extent that they would have no other for their first President. He was forced to come out of retirement out of duty. His devotion extended even beyond God in his Nation to those around him.
When the opportunity for Kingship was offered to him, he reminded everyone of how heartbreaking it had been to ensure their freedom. No one knew better than he then the sacrifices they endured.
May we learn from his example and embody the goodness of Christ, the determination of the Patriot, and the strength of George Washington. [anon]
