Perhaps one of the more controversial topics of our day is "Spirit Communication." This, like most topics, is little understood because it and Mind has not been understood and there has been so many forces arrayed against man's awakening. Likewise the unreasonable fear of death also hampers understanding. The monumental works of Cayce and Quimby can easily put aside any fears and doubts if people but looked at them with an open mind. Atlin demonstrates Mind or consciousness can reside outside the human organism showing consciousness can exist wherever there is a Neutral Center (which is what a Neutral Center is). Should we consider spirit communication as a communication from Mind to Mind the whole appearance of this controversial topic takes on new meaning and credibility. There is only one Mind or Consciousness.
(Q) Is it possible for this body, Edgar Cayce, in this state to communicate with anyone who has passed into the spirit world?
(A) The spirit of all that have passed from the physical plane remain about the plane until their development carry them onward or are returned for their development here. When they are in the plane of communication or remain within this sphere, any may be communicated with. There are thousands about us here at present. [Cayce (3744-1]
Q: Can you speak about communication with discarnate beings?
A: "As you become more familiar with being in contact with your whole Mind, you will soon understand that which you call (spirit) communication is a very natural and perpetual occurence. Those things which you now think of as being extraordinary are quite ordinary as you remove the barriers to experiencing more of your Self. You will begin to develop the sense that there isn't really such a gap between those who are in body and those who are not. As thoughts that you have are responded to in a form of comunication that is as clear to you as verbal dialogue with a friend three feet away, you begin to understand experientially that the essence of you is not identifiable as a body. It soon becomes obvious that because you are communicating mind to mind, there is no "space" between those minds that is not bridged by a single change of focus in your attention. And this becomes a foundation for remembering that when you have again accepted the wholeness of your Mind, you will not experience it as being separate from any other mind. The familiarity of feeling of Unified Mind begins to register with you.
"You will also discover, as you experience the harmony within this unity, that there is no feeling of a distinction made between that which is being expressed and experienced by one and what is acknowledged as the expression and experience of any other.
"It is only when you accept that which you call a personality that you develop the fear that your personality lacks something, and in the lacking, you need to shield yourself from the recognition of those around you. When you remember that there is nothing to be shielded from, when you recognize the joy that exists in the sharing of the experience as being the extension of unity, then you will understand why there are no barriers between communications as they exist within the Father's Creation." Dialogue on Awakening, page 108 [See Channeling, Medium]
"Now consider this thought. Mind desires—and Mind thinks the THOUGHTS which stem from desire. If you should sit with your father while he is asleep and extend some desire of your Consciousness to his Consciousness he would become aware of your thought extension to a more or less extent, depending upon the advancement of his unfolding.
This fact is so well recognized that it has a name—thought transference. You can easily demonstrate that yourself. Sit in the room of a sleeping person whom you are close to, such as your wife. If you are exuberantly happy, thinking beauty in rhythmic music and such harmonious thoughts, you can make her sleep happily, and insulate her from inharmonious dreams. And she will awaken that way. It cannot be otherwise for this is a thought-wave universe and her Consciousness will respond to the rhythm and essence of your thought—which is happiness and balance—even if she did not awaken with the patterned idea which you may have given to the thought.
Conversely, if you have deep worries and fears, or disturbing thoughts which are frustrations of your desires, or if something is menacing you, you will soon see your wife turn in her sleep, if she is closely en rapport with you, then, when she awakens she will give full evidence of having Consciously reflected the essence of your worried attitude of Mind. More than likely she will say: with much concern, “What is the matter, John—what is wrong?”
This brings you to another thought for consideration.
If you would not speak to your living father or wife who is sleeping, because you know they could not answer you while in so depolarized a body condition, why should you expect to speak in words to your father who is not only in his long sleep but who has so reversed his polarity that his invisible body could not hear you, but also could not speak to you.
Ordinary common sense, and the knowledge you already have will point out the absurdity of spiritualistic claims that someone’s mother is in the room and wishes to speak to her daughter through the medium who makes these absurd claims.
Omit, therefore, all means of bodily, or person to person intercommunications by means of the senses, and confine such possibilities to Mind—and thought-of-Mind intercommunications.
Omit also, all-thought-of-Mind intercommunications from which you may hope for answers which have to do with things which concern only the senses. By this I mean such absurdities as asking one’s mother if she is happy, or comfortable where she is—or where she hid her jewel box.
Remember always that this is a thought-wave universe—that thought bodies are living bodies—and that thought-bodies are not bound to time. Thought bodies are eternal in time. Once formed they extend to the farthest reaches of time.
Beethoven’s thoughts are your thoughts—and they are posterity’s. They extend THROUGH you. Beethoven is a part of your identity—your individuality—your culture—your charm.
Countless thousands of the thoughts of people who have passed on have been extended to future generations through you.
It is not necessary for me to think of some particular thought of Beethoven’s or of any other person who has extended his thoughts to me, for I can just think of that Soul which is Beethoven, or Leonardo da Vinci, or Walt Whitman, and their very KNOWING extends to me.
"We have also said that there is no death in Nature. These two statements lead to much confusion to those who are not yet permitted to know that which they cannot see. One of the thoughts which thus confuses is the thought which is expressed by many who are grieved at the loss of loved ones. These continually ask why - if there is no death - they cannot communicate with their loved ones. This would be quite self-explanatory if one would but think things through by assembling the above stated facts as a foundation to reason from. Let us do this together.
We will draw a simple, and familiar picture. You are sitting by the bedside of your husband. He is sound asleep. He has not the slightest awareness of bodily existence. You do not expect him to exchange thoughts with you, or to accompany you to town, or to inform you of anything. Your companionship with him has as surely ceased as though he was in his casket, so far as his body is concerned. It would never occur to you to employ a medium to see if she could communicate with your temporarily dead-to-the-world husband's body, as many do whose loved ones bodies are in a similar, but permanent condition. Those who do this do so because they feel that their companionship with their loved ones has ended. As you sit there, however, are you not aware of a companionship of the eternal Thomas who cannot die? Everything of a Mind-nature which has come from him to you, you still have. They are a part of your identity. The memories of them which have helped you to become you are still companion to you. You see and hear his thoughts in his works around you, the house he built with you, the children he borned with you. What is the difference between that sleeping body and a dead one? The only difference is that the dead body of Thomas cannot awaken, but Thomas, the immortal, is still living and becoming a part of you, and of all men every moment of all future ages.
If you do not grasp this ask yourself if your own life is not being enriched by Beethoven, Wagner, Shakespeare, Walt Whitman and the Emerson you so deeply love the companionship of. Would you be the same woman without them? If so are they not a part of your identity? Again, if so can you say they are dead when you can have their companionship whenever you wish? Who can you say is dead, whose body once walked the earth to be an actor in the play of Love, which The Master Playwright is throwing upon the screen of imaginings to simulate His One Idea, and to help lay a stone in the structure of civilization as one coral marine animal leaves its calcareous skeleton with other calcareous skeletons to build an island in the sea?
Can you say that Lao Tzu, or Shakespeare, Socrates, Homer, Newton and Luther are dead when they are continuing to make scholars and cultural citizens each moment of each day? Can you rightly say that Jesus died on the cross and will come again, when He is already here transforming your life and ours, and countless others by His teachings, which you can hear and read as effectually as though He spoke them to you from the voice of His body?
Who are you, therefore? Are you not all that has ever been? And will there ever come a moment in all future ages in which you are not eternally living among eternally living mankind to make it a part of you? If you thus reason can you not see the great confusion which exists in man's minds, or senses rather, because of mistaking immortality for mortality? Can you not see, and comprehend, that material bodies and material values go hand in hand with early man, but as his spiritual nature unfolds from body-sensing to Mind-knowing of God-awareness in him, man gradually exchanges material values for Intellectual ones? Can you not plainly see that man is not in an intellectually advanced age as yet, despite the seeming wonders of his material progress, but, on the contrary, he is still in the Barbarian Age of man-killing? He has not yet discovered his unity with man and God, for when man really knows his unity with all men he cannot possibly kill. Our present civilization has been built on piracy. That which one nation has taken from other nations for their enrichment has impoverished them instead. No man will kill another when he knows that he is killing himself."
